Update: Federal government announces it will not tax health and dental benefits

Recently we notified you that the federal government was considering taxing employer contributions to group health and dental benefits plans.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Trudeau announced in the House of Commons that the federal government will not tax employee benefits.

We will continue to monitor developments related to this policy item and keep you informed.

Update on Ontario’s Registered Pension Plan

January 14, 2016

In January 2016, Ontario’s Premier Kathleen Wynne reiterated that the Ontario Registered Pension Plan (ORPP) will launch next year, regardless of whether the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) is enhanced. This comment was made in light of a meeting with provincial finance ministers in late December 2015, hosted by federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau. CPP expansion was discussed; however more research and consultation will occur before the ministers meet again in June and December 2016…
